New packages to help NT residents own property
Northern Territory residents will find it easier to stop renting and start owning a home under the TIO's new My New Home and Homestart Extra packages.
“The Henderson Team is committed to increasing affordable housing options for a growing population by delivering new housing developments, affordable rental homes and the best Government homebuyer assistance in the nation,” Treasurer Delia Lawrie said.
“We understand the challenges a strong economy can bring and that’s why we are providing incentives to support Territorians to purchase their own part of the Territory and increase the supply of rental stock.
“Just two weeks after we announced the new home packages, TIO received more than a thousand enquiries from prospective home owners interested in the My New Home deposit free loan," she said.
“This loan strips away two of the biggest barriers young Territorians face in buying their own home – a large deposit, and lenders mortgage insurance."
According to Ms. Lawrie, the largest ever land release program is also underway and there are over 2000 dwellings in Darwin development approved.
These incentives build on the establishment of the affordable housing rental company other initiatives announced during this campaign including a short-stay workers accommodation village at Marrara and over 1000 new homes across Darwin through the redevelopment of land at Stuart Park.
