Nation first land information project

A new project in one state will benefit those looking for land information, according to a new announcement.

Tasmanian property buyers will be able to receive more information about land for investment or development under a new partnership between the Tasmanian government and the Geographic Information System, as well as Esri Australia.

The management of 400,000 of the state’s cadastral parcels and administrative boundaries will be overhauled to provide new information.

Esri Australia’s business manager for Tasmania, Jean-Noel Jarnet, said that it would provide details such as boundaries, land title and valuation information.

“Whether it’s home buyers needing to know property specifics, such as zoning or valuation information; developers wanting a clearer understanding of land suitability; or government departments looking to better match services to properties – this partnership will provide all stakeholders with unparalleled access to the land information they require,” said Mr Jarnet.

“By improving the efficiency of maintenance of the state’s cadastral and administrative data, the new system will also facilitate the management and delivery of planning scheme information through the Land Information System Tasmania (LIST) initiative.”

The project is set to be complete in mid-2013.

The information will be available online through an interactive map, and may encourage other states to do the same.
