Since the abandonment of Mary Vale’s Traveston Dam project by the government, significant works have been earmarked to return stability to the region and community, as well as to manage the land.

One of the development activities outlined in the Mary Vale Development Strategy is to “provide briefings to financial institutions, property valuers and other professional and industry groups to ensure funding and transaction risks to purchasers are minimised”.

Other initiatives include looking towards tourism opportunities and bringing in more skills and employment activities.

Land has already been given back to the community to start these changes.

“My department asked Gympie Regional Council to suggest several properties owned by the Coordinator-General that could be transferred back to the community and the block next to the war memorial in Main Street, Kandanga was identified,” said deputy premier Jeff Seeney.

“A number of properties have been identified within Kandanga as suitable for small business operations, and will be marketed and presented for sale to promote economic development within the township.

“Other town development and urban expansion opportunities will be determined as the strategy is progressed.”
