Urban growth planned for Victorian region

The Victorian government will inject several million dollars into community facilities and infrastructure planning for a growth area.

Planning Minister Matthew Guy has approved $7.7 million for the Geelong City Council to invest in Armstrong Creek, where a total of 800 residences are expected to be completed by 2013.

A further 600 residences are set to be completed by 2014.

$7.1 million will be allocated for construction of an Armstrong Creek East neighborhood health and community centre located along Burvilles Road, Armstrong East.

A total of $500,000 has been given for an Armstrong Creek East community sport pavilion on the same road and $140,000 to the Geelong Council for infrastructure planning and implementation.

"These state-of-the-art facilities for this growing region within the greater Geelong area will support the estimated forecast population growth of around 50,000 people," Mr Guy said.

"This is a key urban growth project in Geelong and will deliver a supply of residential land and a mix of retail; education and community uses; and provide up to 22,000 local jobs." Mr Guy said the new facilities will improve liveability in the area.
