Perth suffers seasonal slowdown

The Perth median house price lifted in September but sales slipped as sporting and cultural events monopolised buyers' attention.

According to data from the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA), the median price lifted by one per cent in the past quarter, up to $544,000.

Mr Airey said the lift reflected higher activity close to the city and a softening in the outer suburbs.

However, sales for the September quarter softened by seven per cent compared to the June quarter and 15 per cent compared to the same period last year.

REIWA president David Airey said the September quarter was typically a sluggish time for sales.

“Actually, it’s always the case that September is a slow sales month with Father’s Day, various sporting finals, the Royal Show and the long weekend interrupting things,” he said.

The highest sales volumes were recorded in the City of Stirling, Fremantle, Vincent and Melville, as well as the Town of Kwinana.

Weak results were recorded in Joondalup and Belmont.
