Property review site launches in prestige Melbourne market

A new website that’s marketing itself as “Trip Advisor for prestige properties” has launched, allowing buyers to offer reviews after attending open houses.

The platform, airopens, allows for partnered BuyerX buyer’s agents to attend open houses of prestige properties and generate a “warts and all” grading sheet of the property, according to the company, by buyer’s agents and not the real estate agents who are selling the properties.

The grading sheet currently ranks the land content, the build quality, the building condition, natural light, privacy and neighbouring properties, giving them a letter grade.

Buyers can then enter their own private grading to create their own grading sheet. There are also plans to aggregate user gradings into a community grading, which can be seen and compared to the buyer’s agent rating.

According to BuyerX corporate general manager Dustin Cracknell, the platform allows for buyers to pick and choose the characteristics of a property they may or may not like, allowing them to determine if, for example, a property is close to local amenities, the status of nearby properties, and the potential for renovation, among others.

By including these characteristics, Mr Cracknell said it allows for buyers to have the option to quickly check whether properties meet their requirements or not.

“It gives consumers struggling to choose between multiple properties an instant checklist against which they can formulate their own private views and objectively compare one property against another,” he said.

“It also helps identify problems that may have been overlooked and could save buyers the heartache of making a very expensive mistake.”

The platform and BuyerX have no connection to the reviewed properties or the agencies they are sold through, according to a spokesperson.

Currently, airopens has launched in the Melbourne market, but there are plans to open the service up to Sydney and Perth properties over the next one to two months, followed by Brisbane within the next six to 12 months.
