Archers the Strata Professionals Partner, Grant Mifsud, said many apartment complexes and resorts have been able to take advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown in Queensland to carry out substantial refurbishments.

Over the past weeks, a significant number of holiday accommodations have been upgraded during lockdown in preparation for the long-awaited return of guests, which at this stage will be limited to Queensland residents only.

“While the travel restrictions imposed by the Queensland government have proven extremely difficult for the tourism sector, many resorts and apartment complexes have had an opportunity to carry out much-needed and possibly overdue upgrades,” he said.

“With restrictions eased by the state government for intrastate travel, people taking a break in some of our beautiful beaches are likely to be pleasantly surprised to find their accommodation has been given a makeover.”

Mr Mifsud said bodies corporate with sufficient funds available have been carrying out maintenance work such as repairs to swimming pools and barbecue areas or repainting other common areas such as foyers.

Meanwhile, some complexes have even been able to carry out major upgrades, including gutting units for a complete makeover.

“There are many accommodation providers who have invested in these upgrades while taking a financial hit during the lockdown and they are anxious to get back to business, according to him.

Moving forward, the Queensland tourism sector will be expecting to see strong demand from people who have been restricted to their own areas of the state during lockdown.

“There are sure to be many thousands of Queenslanders keen to take a winter break, particularly with school holidays approaching, Mr Mifsud concluded.
