NSW government identifies 30 new development sites
The new sites will provide land for 1,600 new homes, located across Sydney and regional NSW.
The NSW government identified 14 sites through the property audit, including two sites scheduled for transfer to Homes NSW at Box Hill and Riverstone for 35 market homes and 50 social and affordable homes.
Twelve sites have also been identified for housing development by Landcom, or in partnership with the private sector, including nine in Sydney and three in regional NSW.
It includes three sites of unused government land in Rouse Hill, as well as land located in Edmondson Park, Stanmore, Earlwood, North Sydney, Chippendale and Fairfield.
Sites in regional NSW include Broadmeadow, Morisset and Orange.
The 14 sites will see the creation of a combined 1,400 homes.
It comes as the NSW government announced the development of 194 new social homes on 16 Homes NSW sites across Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Northern Rivers and the Riverina.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully, said that identifying new land was central to increasing housing supply.
“The Minns Labor government continues to deliver on its commitment to identify land it owns that could be better used for housing,” the minister outlined.
“The property audit is another part of our plan to deliver more homes and is bolstered by the reforms to the NSW planning system and investment in Landcom that allows it to deliver more homes.”
The Building Homes for NSW program is expected to deliver up to 30,000 homes on government sites as part of a $6.6 billion package unveiled within the 2024–25 budget.
The announcement will help deliver critical housing, NSW Premier Chris Minns said: “Today’s announcement of further sites across Sydney and regional NSW is part of our commitment to provide for housing for renters, first home buyers and the most vulnerable members of our community.”
