Adelaide voted Australia's best
Adelaide is Australia’s most liveable city, according to a national survey commissioned by the Property Council of Australia.
The survey, which interviewed more than 4,000 people across the nation’s capital cities, found Adelaide was the best place to live, followed closely by Canberra.
Sydney was ranked by its own residents as Australia's worst city.
"This major survey provides a barometer of the performance of our cities by those who live in them," Property Council CEO Peter Verwer said.
The survey revealed that Australians rated their cities highly on recreational outdoor spaces, natural environments, cultural entertainment and education facilities.
Roads and traffic congestion, public transport, environmental sustainability and the provision of affordable housing received the lowest level of resident approval.
"Australians know what makes a great city and they rate our cities poorly in public transport, roads and traffic congestion, environmental sustainability and housing affordability,” Mr Verwer said.
"These results should shock governments into action to lift the performance of our cities."
