3 of 4 properties fail to sell on The Block

Three of the four properties on Channel Nine’s The Block failed to sell last night, leaving Polly Porter and Warwick Jones the winners of the reality television renovation competition.

Their house went for $855,000, $15,000 above the $840,000 reserve.

"We are over the moon," Jones said in the Sydney Morning Herald. "I'm my own favourite underdog story at the moment."

The SMH said the house that most expected to sell, which was renovated by Josh Densten and Jenna Whitehead, failed to attract a bid over the reserve.

It said the initial offer of $750,000 was followed by 20 minutes of inaction, at which point buyer's advocate Frank Valentic offered $901,000. The house was passed in.

The show was estimated to have been watched by over two million viewers last night.

The Block attracted additional interest late last week when Consumer Affairs Victoria confirmed that it had  visited the offices of the real estate agents involved in the show, namely Hocking Stuart in Richmond, Biggin Scott in Richmond,  Jellis Craig in Richmond, and Woodards in Carnegie.

"What we did was take a proactive approach,” spokeswoman Heather Abbott told The Age. “There was quite a bit of media interest and consumer affairs acted … to make sure everything was above board."
