The $812 million Superway is beginning construction soon and will put Adelaide on the investment map the first of its kind in South Australia and will open up the region.

$500 million was committed to the program by the Australian Government through the Nation Building Program Act as part of the north-south corridor upgrade.

"The Gillard and Rann Labor Governments are committed to the development of strategic transport projects that underpin vibrant, competitive and sustainable communities," said former Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese.

As the biggest single investment in SA road projects it links the Port River Expressway to Regency Road and will cut down travel times significantly.

The construction of the project will create more than 2,700 jobs.

Local connector roads were completed in 2011 and the Government expects that the project will make the Port of Adelaide, and key industrial hubs, more accessible.

"As part of the National Land Transport Network, South Road is a vital link in a nationwide program of investment to promote economic growth, reduce congestion and make our roads safer for all who use them,” said Mr Albanese.
