$100 on offer for Perth residents who fix leaky taps

Perth metropolitan households are set to see a $100 rebate on the cost of fixing leaky taps as the state works to better conserve water.

More than 135,000 metropolitan properties across Perth and Peel will benefit from the Water Corporation’s leak assist pilot program that encourages residents to take action in repairing household leaks.

The rebate scheme comes after a recent water use study of more than 1,500 Perth and Peel households, which identified leaks across more than 17 per cent of properties.

The program also hopes to teach residents how to identify water leaks and puts them in touch with local plumbing services.

Eligible customers who have engaged a licensed plumber to repair a leak will be able to apply for a $100 rebate on the property’s water corporation account.

According to a statement from state water minister Dave Kelly, the plan sets the direction for transitioning Perth to a “waterwise” city – facilitating the creation of a “cool, liveable, green and sustainable” set of communities in which people live, work and play.

The rebate is being delivered in collaboration with the Master Plumbers and Gasfitters Association of Western Australia.
