Brisbane-based buyer’s agent, Melinda Jennison, was elected to the top spot at REBAA’s annual general meeting on 29 August, replacing outgoing president Cate Bakos.

With a research background, Ms Jennison obtained a PhD in 2001, and moved into real estate with involvement in the building and construction industry as well as property development before embarking on her career as a buyer’s agent and advocate.

She described herself as “passionate about the real estate industry within Australia”, and said she was excited to be leading the body.

Ms Bakos made the choice to relinquish the role after four years at the helm of the association. In stepping aside, she paid her respects to the team that supported her and will work alongside Ms Jennison.

She added that she felt confident the organisation would continue to thrive under Ms Jennison’s leadership.

“I’m thrilled to congratulate Melinda, and I have utmost confidence that she will lead the organisation admirably alongside an amazing leadership team,” Ms Bakos said.

“Melinda operates a superb buyer’s agency business and has demonstrated a high level of care for her clients and an impressive ability to lead people,” she added.

Ms Jennison, who has been serving as the association’s Queensland state representative, said she was gratified to receive the vote of confidence.

"Im thrilled to receive the support from members to carry on the legacy that all past presidents and committee members have created, and to lead REBAA through what will be an exciting 12 months,” Ms Jennison said.

“I look forward to nurturing new entrants to the industry to ensure they have access to training and skill development opportunities to ensure minimum standards for buyers agents across our country are maintained,” she commented.

Brisbane buyer’s agent, Zoran Solano, was also elected as REBAA vice president at the AGM.
