State institute launches real estate literacy show
Better informed consumers benefit the entire industry, which is why the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) is going directly to the source.
The institute has released a new series of educational videos made available directly to consumers in an effort to increase real estate literacy across the state.
Called Prop IQ, the series is hosted by REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella who walks viewers through some of the complexities of certain real estate scenarios, answering questions regularly fielded by agents.
The first episode focused on the first home buying experience, welcoming Sarah Dowling of realestate.com.au to provide expert guidance on navigating listings, while a Queensland couple shared a typical experience of what the first home buyer journey often looks like.
Streaming live on the institute’s Facebook page, the show is then available to watch via YouTube. The institute is hoping that it will connect with everyday buyers, renters, and anyone involved in real estate transactions to strengthen consumers’ knowledge of the sector.
According to Mercorella, the institute felt there was a gap in consumer knowledge that could be addressed by “entertaining, accessible, and interactive learning experience”.
“Real estate is essential to all of us, it’s often the topic of conversation at BBQs around the country, and it can be the biggest financial investment people make in their lifetime, and yet, most people have a rudimentary understanding of it,” Mercorella said.
“Each episode hones in on a different aspect of real estate and speaks to the professionals who live and breathe it, allowing us to take a deep dive into their expertise.”
She noted that speaking to everyday Queensland buyers, renters and sellers will be integral to bringing real-world experience to the REIQ’s audience.
In the first episode, for example, the show used a couple’s property journey to uncover some of the important home buying steps that can easily be overlooked.
“We spoke with a couple who travelled a comprehensive roadmap to successfully acquire their dream home and learnt some important lessons along the way,” Mercorella said.
“Plus, we looked at available grants and schemes, the role of mortgage brokers and real estate agents in the buying journey, and we discussed how apps can be helpful when it comes to finding the right home,” she added.
The second episode is due out next week, focusing on navigating the rental market in the Sunshine State.
