Just under 200 years ago, Daylesford – then known as Wombat Flat – was a bustling gold town home to miners from across the world.
Today, it’s a town that seems to have everything – picturesque lakes, snowy winters, historic charm, and a strong community spirit.
Over the past 12 months, a new level of attention has been cast on Daylesford after it was named The Block’s location for its 2025 season.
Five 2,400-square-metre blocks have been sold to Channel 9 by local developer Hygge, with the goal of transforming the lots into highly sustainable, freestanding homes through the work of the show’s contestants, who are yet to be revealed.
Located on Raglan Street at the eastern entry to the town, the five properties will be a permanent and eye-catching landmark for visitors arriving at Daylesford for the first time.
The blocks are part of a carbon-neutral, master-planned neighbourhood called Middleton Field, which is located a stone’s throw from the Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens and popular Sunday market.
A collection of 31 townhouses have already been built on the site, alongside wildflower meadows, an idyllic orchard, and a community vegetable garden.
Will Walton, principal of Belle Property Daylesford, the agency responsible for the sales, has predicted that local businesses will experience a flow-on effect from the attention brought by the show.
“For over a century, Daylesford has attracted tourists from across the globe for its quaint character, picturesque setting, and offerings such as the mineral springs,” said Walton.
“The Block coming to Daylesford in 2025 will not only showcase our town’s natural beauty but also highlight the renowned culinary scene, a major drawcard for residents and visitors alike.”
The local housing market may also be the recipient of wider national attention as eyes look to the eco-conscious development on Raglan Street.
“Middleton Field introduces sustainable, architecturally designed housing options that cater to a diverse range of residents, including first home buyers, young families and downsizers,” said Walton.
“I am excited to see the beautiful master-plan community come to life.”
As the historic town continues to power forward into the future, residents and the local council have reportedly expressed a strong desire for a wide range of sustainable housing options in Daylesford.
Developer Hygge stated: “Working together, we can create a lasting legacy for the residents, the wider Daylesford and the environment, building on the strong character of Daylesford that has brought us all here, and creating a new community we can all be proud to be a part of.”
