Sydney’s vacancy rates remain steady

Residential vacancy rates in the state capital saw no change for a third month in a row, according to the Real Estate Institute of NSW (REINSW).

A survey by the industry body found that Sydney’s vacancy rate remained at 1.7 per cent in April, with outer Sydney the only area to see an increase – up 0.1 per cent to 1.9 per cent.

Inner Sydney vacancies recorded no change during the month at 1.3 per cent, while middle Sydney’s vacancy rate was down 0.3 per cent to 1.6 per cent.

As for the regional areas, the Central Coast’s vacancy rate was up 1.0 per cent to 3.0 per cent, and rental accommodation in the Illawarra region increased by 0.4 per cent to 1.7 per cent, led by Wollongong (up 0.7 per cent to 1.7 per cent).

Vacancies on the South Coast rose 0.3 per cent to 2.5 per cent in April, while the Hunter region saw a rise of 0.2 per cent to 2.5 per cent despite a 0.8 per cent decline in Newcastle.

Rental accommodation in the New England region was steady at 3.6 per cent, while Albury’s vacancy rate was down 0.7 per cent to 2.9 per cent, and the Riverina was down 1.2 per cent to 3.1 per cent.
